How to Pick the Right Chair for Your Office?
Office Furniture Center offers an extensive selection of chairs, over 300 to be exact. Our goal in having this big selection is to cater to all client’s needs. We recognize not every person wants the same thing in their furniture, specifically office chairs. Generally, people are sitting at office chairs for lengthy time periods. The best office chairs will provide comfort and allow you to stay attentive at work. They also encourage better posture daily and reduce health costs.
Here are the main factors to consider:
- Height Adjustability
- Tilt Control
- Seat Dimensions
- Armrest
- Materials and Padding
- Mobility
- Lumbar Support
Height adjustability allows you to position your chair to a ratio that is comfortable for your legs. Ideally, your seat should be adjusted so your thigh is leveled with your hips. Tilt control also allows you to position a chair to your liking. Whether it is a firm or loose tension, you can decide how engaged you want to be with your work.
Seat dimensions and armrest help to determine if a chair can fit a person’s body. While your chair might not necessarily be a custom fit, you can decide if you want a chair to be snugger around your body or have a bigger base. In general, picking the proper armrest helps the body’s alignment and can help with shoulder and neck strain over time. Some arms are even 4-way adjustable; meaning you can move them forward, back, and both sides.
Material and padding will determine how your chair feels against your body. There are usually 4 materials associated with office chairs. Upholstered fabric provides durability and a soft surface for you to sit on. Leather/Leatherette is also soft but offers more ventilation than your usual upholstered fabric. Perforated plastic increases the flexibility in a chair, allowing you to sit back in your chair more. Ventilated mesh is a firm material that offers maximum back support.
Mobility describes the chairs’ ability to move. Some people prefer to be stationary, and it is recommended they get a sled base or post-leg chair. For full mobility, a caster chair is always the way to go. Castered chairs will give you free rein to fully turn and move.
Lumbar support refers to the chair functions that are meant to support your back. Some chairs have no lumbar support, which can contribute to back pain in the future. Chairs with no lumbar support are not recommended for an office setting. Standard lumbar support chairs provide a fixed beam on the lower section of the back. Some brands even have adjustable lumbar support and active lumbar support.
